The last living grandson of Eleftherios Venizelos has passed away, as announced by the Eleftherios K. Venizelos Research and Study Foundation.
The Eleftherios K. Venizelos Research and Study Foundation announced the death of the last living grandson of the prominent Greek statesman, Eleftherios Venizelos. Born in Athens in August 1924, he was the son of Kyriakos, the first-born son of Eleftherios Venizelos, and Marika Roussou, from a ship-owning family from Leros. He had siblings named Nikitas Venizelos and Charis Karagianni, and after marrying Lili Charami, they had a daughter together. Before World War II, the family relocated to France and later to the United States, where he pursued Political and Economic Sciences at Princeton and Columbia Universities. He served two terms as a Member of Parliament for Chania in 1952 and 1956, after which he worked in the family's shipping business. He was active in politics and was the President of the Liberal Club for many years, as well as an honorary President of the National Foundation "Eleftherios K. Venizelos" due to his significant contributions in various spheres. The passing of Eleftherios Venizelos, the grandson, marks the end of a lineage deeply rooted in Greece's political history, given his grandfather's influential role as a leader and statesman. This loss resonates within the narrative of modern Greek history and highlights the familial connections to past political figures who shaped the nationβs direction during critical times.
