Red Cross volunteers strengthen their preparedness: gaining experience at Santara Clinics

Lithuania's Red Cross volunteers are enhancing their practical skills and understanding of hospital operations through a collaboration with Santara Clinics, aimed at better preparing for emergencies.

The Lithuanian Red Cross is advancing its emergency preparedness by intensively training volunteers to enhance their practical skills in medical support roles. As part of a program funded by the Ministry of Health, the initiative focuses on equipping volunteers with the necessary tools to assist hospital personnel, particularly in times of crisis. This ongoing training is aligned with the broader goals of the Crisis and Emergency Management Program set to run from 2025 to 2027, ensuring a consistent operational capacity to respond to disasters.

Starting in March, 100 volunteers from the Red Cross will have opportunities to gain hands-on experience in two emergency departments in non-crisis conditions. This engagement will allow volunteers to familiarize themselves with hospital operations and protocols, and to develop the necessary compassion and professional skills that are vital in a healthcare environment. These steps are crucial for ensuring that non-medical support can be effectively integrated into the hospital system during emergencies.

The collaboration with Vilnius University Hospital Santara Clinics represents a logical extension of the Red Cross's existing training programs. By working closely with healthcare professionals, the volunteers not only enhance their understanding but also build relationships that can be beneficial during actual emergency situations. This initiative underscores the commitment of the Lithuanian Red Cross to develop a well-prepared volunteer force capable of responding to various crises, reinforcing community resilience and healthcare response capabilities in the process.
