Cyclist dies after being hit by a bus in São Romão

In a tragic incident in the Renascer neighborhood of São Romão, a 41-year-old cyclist, Maria Joana Alves dos Santos Lopes Pereira, died after being hit by a bus. According to the Military Police, the bus driver reported that he was driving along Rua Manoel Jovino Filho and, at the intersection with Avenida Paulo Ivo, he was startled by a child on a bicycle who suddenly crossed in front of him. In an effort to avoid hitting the child, the driver made a left turn and inadvertently struck the cyclist who had just entered the avenue.
Emergency services were called to the scene, but unfortunately, Pereira was pronounced dead due to multiple traumatic injuries. A Civil Police team conducted an investigation at the site and released the body after completing their examination. The incident raises critical questions about road safety for cyclists and pedestrians, particularly in areas where children are present.
