German inspection giant rolls into Finland - Bought several familiar stations

German company TÜV Süd has expanded into Finland by acquiring Suomen Katsastusasemat Oy from Helix Partners, which includes several well-known vehicle inspection brands.

German TÜV Süd has made its entrance into the Finnish market by acquiring Suomen Katsastusasemat Oy from Helix Partners. This acquisition includes three brands: Q-Katsastus, Kovalainen Katsastus, and Koillismaan Katsastus, along with their eleven inspection stations. Although the financial details of the transaction have not been disclosed, the expansion reflects TÜV Süd's strategy to strengthen its presence in the Nordic region.

Suomen Katsastusasemat Oy, based in Joensuu, is noted for being the third largest inspection service provider in Finland in terms of quantity, suggesting significant existing operations and the potential for further growth. In the fiscal year 2024, the company reported a revenue of six million euros and a profit of 554,565 euros. This acquisition also signals the increasing competition in the vehicle inspection market in Finland as international players like TÜV Süd seek to gain market share.

Since its establishment in 1995, Suomen Katsastusasemat has been a key player in the vehicle inspection industry, particularly following the liberalization of the inspection market. The firm currently employs 45 staff members, who conduct over ten thousand inspections annually. With TÜV Süd's extensive experience in various international markets—including Turkey, Spain, Austria, Sweden, Estonia, Latvia, Slovakia, and South Africa—its entry into Finland could lead to enhanced service offerings and potentially higher standards in the local industry.
