Syrian Interior Ministry announces foiling missile attacks targeting Damascus

The Syrian Interior Ministry reports the arrest of a terrorist cell equipped with missile launchers intended for attacks in the capital, Damascus.

On Tuesday, the Syrian Interior Ministry announced that it had successfully arrested a terrorist cell in possession of missile launchers aimed at executing attacks in Damascus. This operation concluded a series of targeted security measures carried out by the Ministry of Interior’s units in the Damascus countryside, in collaboration with the General Intelligence Service. The arrested individuals were reportedly planning assaults on the Mezze area and its military airport, indicating a concerning level of threat to the city’s security.

The ministry detailed that security forces seized Grad-type missiles and their launch platforms from the terrorist group, emphasizing that the suspects had previously engaged in several attacks. The missiles were reportedly prepared to carry out criminal acts that would destabilize the region, particularly by targeting populated areas. This revelation comes in the context of ongoing security challenges faced by the Syrian government, which has been striving to bolster security and reaffirm its control amid a backdrop of persistent violence.

Since November of the previous year, the Mezze area and its military airport have experienced multiple missile attacks, some of which resulted in injuries and property damage. The Syrian government has been reportedly intensifying its security efforts to maintain stability and suppress such threats, pointing to a larger narrative of ongoing conflicts within the country and the measures taken to ensure public safety.
