Elderly man dies after falling from scaffolding during work at daughter's house in MS
An elderly man died after falling from scaffolding while working on his daughter's house in Dourados, Brazil.
Vicente Ferreira da Costa, a 70-year-old man, tragically died after falling from scaffolding while assisting with construction at his daughter's residence in the Parque das Nações neighborhood of Dourados, MS. Reports indicate that Vicente was constructing a wooden structure for a concrete beam when the accident occurred. His son discovered him after the fall and promptly called the Emergency Medical Service (Samu), but unfortunately, the medical team pronounced him dead on the scene.
The incident highlights the risks associated with construction work, especially for elderly individuals who may be more vulnerable due to existing health conditions. Vicente reportedly had a history of health issues, including a previous heart attack and ongoing medication for heart conditions, which may have contributed to the severity of his injuries. The police have registered the incident at the local Community Emergency Service Police Station (Depac), which is standard for such cases.
This tragic event raises questions about workplace safety practices, particularly for those working on home improvement projects. It serves as a reminder for families to ensure that elderly relatives are not put in potentially hazardous situations, especially those involving heights or strenuous physical activity. Such occurrences emphasize the need for safety measures and precautions when engaging in construction or repair work, regardless of the worker's age or health status.
