50 thousand tulip bulbs will bloom in Durbes gardening, flower prices will rise

As warmer weather approaches, a nursery in Durbes begins planting petunias and other seedlings, while showcasing a rich collection of exotic plants.

In anticipation of warmer weather, the Durbes nursery is set to start planting petunias, pansies, and other seedlings this week. The owner, Jฤnis Putra, highlighted the abundant growth of exotic plants in their tropical greenhouse, which features lemons, persimmons, figs, and blooming orange trees. He mentioned that despite the cold winter temperatures, the tropical house remains a place of vibrant growth, offering a unique opportunity for the local community to enjoy these rare plants.

The nursery owner shared his delight at the interest generated online, particularly regarding lemon seedlings, which he claims have garnered more inquiries than he has ever received before. This surge of curiosity comes as the nursery showcases its impressive collection of exotic plants that have been brought back from various travels. The variety of plants includes multiple lemon species, oranges, a mandarin tree, pomegranates, olive trees, and even bananas, contributing to a substantial collection that highlights the beauty of tropical foliage even during the harshest winters in Latvia.

Putra founded the Durbes nursery 20 years ago, and it has grown significantly since its establishment. With the blooming of 50,000 tulip bulbs anticipated soon, this local garden center is not only preparing for spring but is also adjusting to predicted increases in flower prices due to demand. The story illustrates the interplay between local agricultural enthusiasm, market trends, and the cultural importance of gardening in Latvia, particularly with the upcoming celebrations of spring and Valentine's Day that influence flower demand.
