The Kremlin is bitterly disappointed in Trump

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov criticized the Trump administration for sabotaging relations between the US and Russia and undermining efforts to end the war in Ukraine.

In a recent interview on the Russian Foreign Ministry's website, Sergey Lavrov expressed the Kremlin's deep disappointment with former U.S. President Donald Trump, claiming that his administration has obstructed the improvement of US-Russia relations. Lavrov pointed out that despite Trump's comments advocating for the cessation of the war in Ukraine, such sentiments are not reflected in U.S. foreign policy toward Russia. Instead of a move toward reconciliation, Lavrov suggested that the U.S. is reinforcing sanctions and engaging in maritime conflicts, countering Trump’s diplomatic rhetoric.

Lavrov further stated that Trump should reverse the sanctions imposed by his predecessor Joe Biden in response to Russia's military actions in Ukraine. He highlighted that, contrary to Trump's expressed desires, the U.S. government has been moving in the opposite direction by implementing new sanctions and seizing vessels associated with what they refer to as Russia's 'shadow fleet.' This has raised concerns over compliance with international maritime law and has complicated the potential for diplomatic negotiations to resolve the ongoing conflict.

Additionally, Lavrov addressed the impact of these sanctions on major Russian oil companies like Rosneft and Lukoil, indicating that the recent punitive measures are affecting essential sectors of the Russian economy. This situation illustrates not only the strained relationship between the U.S. and Russia but also the complexities that arise when domestic politics influence international relations, particularly in the context of ongoing military engagements in Ukraine.
