Far-left nonprofits in the hot seat as lawmaker exposes them for 'sowing chaos' in US
House Committee on Ways and Means chair Jason Smith is investigating China-based nonprofits for alleged ties to propaganda and foreign influence in the U.S.
In a recent move to address concerns about foreign influence in the United States, House Committee on Ways and Means chair Jason Smith initiated an investigation targeting China-based, American-born Marxist tech entrepreneur Neville Roy Singham. Smith's investigation, which commenced shortly before a scheduled hearing on foreign influence, highlights allegations that Singham is involved in propagating chaos and disseminating Chinese propaganda, purportedly with the backing of a foreign government.
Smith has particularly focused on two U.S. nonprofits, BreakThrough BT Media Inc. and the Tricontinental: Institute for Social Research, sending letters to both organizations demanding documentation regarding their connections to Singham. These organizations stand accused of promoting ideological narratives that align with the goals of the Chinese Communist Party, raising alarms about the extent of their influence in U.S. political and social discourse.
The scheduled hearing is poised to critique the role of foreign entities in American nonprofits, framing it as a necessary measure to safeguard national interests. With the session being broadcasted online, it aims to inform the public about perceived threats from foreign influences, specifically analyzing how certain nonprofits may be facilitating the transmission of foreign propaganda and undermining American democratic values.
