Ekiti courts digitalise case management for effective justice system
The Ekiti State High Court is implementing a digital case management system to improve efficiency and reduce delays in the judicial process.
The Chief Judge of Ekiti State, Justice Lekan Ogunmoye, announced that the High Court is moving towards adopting the Nigeria Case Management System (NCMS) to modernize its operations. This transition involves acquiring necessary hardware and training personnel to ensure a smooth onboarding process into the digital platform. The initiative aims to enhance the functionality of the courts by leveraging technology to manage cases more effectively.
During a stakeholders' roundtable discussion held in Ado Ekiti, Justice Ogunmoye highlighted the features of the NCMS, which include case tracking, document management, and automated alerts. According to him, these features are designed to standardize operations across federal and state courts, ultimately aiming to minimize delays, reduce corruption, and enhance overall judicial performance. The emphasis placed on adopting a digital system indicates a shift towards modernization within Nigeria's judiciary.
The NCMS is part of a broader initiative by the National Judicial Council, implemented through the Judicial Information Technology Policy Committee of Nigeria, which seeks to streamline court processes and ensure greater efficiency. This move reflects a significant step in enhancing the justice system in Ekiti State, aligning it with contemporary technological standards to improve public trust and the effectiveness of legal proceedings.
