Kasteli Airport: The competition for air navigation systems has been announced

The announcement of a tender for the air navigation systems of the new Kasteli International Airport in Crete was made by the International Airport of Heraklion, following a relevant agreement signed in January 2026.

The International Airport of Heraklion, Crete, has initiated a competition for the procurement of air navigation systems for the under-construction Kasteli International Airport. This announcement comes as part of an agreement signed earlier this year by Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Christos Dimas, which aims to expedite the installation of critical navigation technology. The tender encompasses various components such as communication systems, navigation systems including RVR, surveillance systems like MLAT and A-SMGCS, a backup control tower, a control tower simulator, and meteorological systems.

Minister Christos Dimas emphasized that this tender is a significant step in activating the Air Navigation Equipment Agreement that was signed in the presence of the Prime Minister. He indicated that fulfilling this tender is crucial for ensuring the timely procurement and implementation of essential equipment needed for the operational functionality of the new airport. This initiative not only reflects Greece's commitment to enhancing its aviation infrastructure but also aims to accommodate the increasing passenger traffic expected in the region.

The Kasteli International Airport project is anticipated to play a key role in boosting tourism in Crete, thereby contributing to the local economy. By modernizing air navigation systems, the Greek government aims to ensure both safety and efficiency in air travel, making the airport a vital hub in the Mediterranean. The successful execution of this project could have long-term implications for transportation and tourism in Greece.
