Eleni Karageorgopoulou has become independent from Plefsi Eleftherias
Eleni Karageorgopoulou, an MP from Eastern Attica, has officially become independent from the Plefsi Eleftherias party as she expressed dissatisfaction with the party's practices.
According to reports, Eleni Karageorgopoulou, a member of the Greek parliament representing Eastern Attica, has declared her independence from the Plefsi Eleftherias party. She informed Nikitas Kaklamanis, the president of the parliament, in a letter that is set to be disclosed during a parliamentary session. Her decision comes after a week of deliberation, during which she communicated her choice to party leader Zoe Konstantopoulou, thanking her for the opportunities provided during her tenure.
The decision attributed to Karageorgopoulou stems from feelings of disconnect between the party's rhetoric and its actions, leading her to conclude that she has matured politically and intends to challenge the ruling New Democracy party independently. This shift means that the number of parliamentary members in Plefsi Eleftherias will decrease from six to five while they continue to maintain their status as an official parliamentary party.
This development might signal changing dynamics within the party as it strives to retain its influence amidst political tensions. As an independent, Karageorgopoulou's future role in the opposition may draw attention given her commitment to critique the government's policies, potentially affecting both her political career and the overall landscape of opposition politics in Greece.
