Wives Will Not Stay with Players, Separate Arrangements Required, Decision by BCCI

The BCCI has decided that players' families will not be allowed to stay with them during the T20 World Cup 2026, rejecting requests for family accommodations in team hotels.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken a firm decision regarding the accommodation of players' families during the T20 World Cup 2026, which is co-hosted by India. As per the BCCI's policy, players' wives and fiancées will not be permitted to stay at the team hotel, countering the team management's request for such arrangements. Instead, any player wishing for family presence during the tournament will have to make private arrangements at a separate hotel, with the responsibility solely on them.

The BCCI's stance is that since the Indian team will be primarily staying in India and only needs to travel to Sri Lanka for matches against Pakistan, the necessity for family accommodation is minimal. The board believes this will help maintain focus on the tournament without the distractions that family presence might bring. They referenced their existing policy that allows players to have family members accompany them only on lengthy overseas tours, defined as those lasting 45 days or more, for a maximum of 14 days.

This decision reflects a broader attempt by the BCCI to streamline team logistics and reinforce discipline during major tournaments. It is indicative of a stringent approach towards player management, especially in high-stakes situations like the T20 World Cup. While some players may dissent over the family rule, the board maintains that such measures are necessary for optimal team performance.
