Morante, Roca, Ortega, and Aguado cement a Feria de Abril with few novelties
The 2026 Feria de Abril in Sevilla will feature prominent bullfighters Morante, Roca Rey, Ortega, and Aguado, kicking off on April 5, with 18 bullfights and limited changes from previous years.
In a gala event held at the Cartuja Center in Sevilla, the bullfighting schedule for the 2026 Feria de Abril was unveiled, showcasing a lineup dominated by renowned toreros Morante de la Puebla, Roca Rey, Juan Ortega, and Pablo Aguado. Each of these elite bullfighters will participate in four bullfights, maintaining the tradition and prestige of this Andalusian celebration. The event, attended by approximately 2,000 spectators, marked Morante's return to the public eye after his recent retirement, highlighting his significance in the bullfighting world.
The season is set to commence on April 5, coinciding with Domingo de Resurrección, and the continuous cycle of the Feria will run from April 11 to 26. After a 16-year hiatus, the Corrida del Corpus is making a comeback on June 4, showing a slight yet noted revival in the bullfighting calendar. Furthermore, the Feria de San Miguel will take place from September 24 to 27, marking a full year of bullfighting events that reflect both continuity and minimal change.
Despite the anticipated celebrated lineup, the general tone around the 2026 Feria de Abril is one of scarce novelty, indicating a reliance on established stars rather than the introduction of fresh talent. This conservatism in programming may reflect broader trends in the bullfighting industry as it navigates modern challenges and audience expectations, ensuring traditional values are upheld while gradually attempting to rejuvenate interest in the art form.
