Crumbling ceilings and hanging iron bars... the lives of innocent children are at stake in these schools

The dilapidated condition of government schools in remote areas of Jharkhand puts children's lives in danger, with many classrooms being unsafe for learning.

In the remote rural areas of Lohardaga district in Jharkhand, government schools are in a dire state, posing significant risks to the lives of students. Reports indicate that this problem is widespread, affecting nearly every other school in the region. Students can be seen studying in fear under crumbling ceilings and decaying walls, while others are forced to attend classes outside under the scorching sun due to the threats posed by their school buildings.

For instance, at the government middle school in Masuriakhad village, there are currently 42 enrolled students who face the constant fear of their dilapidated school collapsing. The structure, which was built in 2008, is now nearly a ruin, and the anxious expressions on the children's faces showcase their struggles with the situation. The principal, Kundan Kisan, has raised alarms repeatedly in departmental meetings, warning officials and engineers that the building could collapse at any moment; however, necessary actions remain unaddressed.

During the monsoon season, conditions worsen as the classroom roofs turn into ponds, leading to flooded rooms. The danger of falling ceilings is a constant threat, and, fortunately, no children have been injured so far, but the ongoing negligence highlights an urgent need for repairs and better infrastructure to ensure the safety of the children who deserve a proper learning environment.
