Only pedestrians can board the Fanø ferry

Due to a malfunction, only pedestrian passengers are currently allowed to board the Fanø ferry, while repairs are underway to resolve the issue.

The Fanø ferry has restricted its services to pedestrian passengers this morning due to a malfunctioning bridge flap at the harbor. This incident has resulted in the inability to transport vehicles and bicycles as the flap has fallen into the water. Jesper Maach, the press and communications manager at Molslinjen, has indicated that they are still investigating the situation but confirmed that the flap’s failure is unfortunate and unexpected.

Despite the disruption, a repair operation is already in progress. Montours have been working throughout the night to prepare for the lifting of the flap, and a crane truck is on its way from Esbjerg equipped with necessary technicians. Additionally, spare parts are said to be ready, allowing repairs to begin immediately once the flap is recovered from the water. This suggests a proactive approach to minimizing the service disruption for passengers traveling to and from Fanø.

For today, only one ferry is in operation, and it is expected to start taking bicycles and vehicles again around noon, according to the company’s statement. The situation highlights the logistical challenges and quick response needed in ferry operations when unexpected mechanical failures occur, especially in a location that relies heavily on such transport.
