Tens of thousands of Nationwide members see cash land in accounts

Tens of thousands of Nationwide Building Society members received financial bonuses, contributing to a significant increase in current account switches.

Nationwide Building Society has recently credited tens of thousands of its members with free cash bonuses, leading to an impressive surge in new customer acquisitions. Experts have praised the building society for its attractive offerings, noting it stands out in the competitive banking sector. Current account switches have already surpassed one million for the third consecutive year, with customers increasingly drawn to the £175 switching incentive offered by Nationwide alongside its profit-sharing scheme that provides annual payments to account holders.

During the third quarter of the year, Nationwide attracted over 41,000 new customers, bolstered by the appeal of its financial rewards. The trend is reflective of a broader appetite for better banking deals among consumers, especially as they seek alternatives to traditional banks. The past year has witnessed an unprecedented level of activity in current account switches, with the last quarter of 2025 alone recording 350,114 switch transactions through the Current Account Switch Service (CASS).

The automatic switching service not only simplifies the process for individuals looking to change banks but has also accelerated the rate at which customers are moving their funds to more favorable options. This uptick indicates a growing trend of customers actively pursuing financial incentives and highlights the evolving landscape of personal banking, where competitive offerings are crucial for customer retention and satisfaction.
