Two groups of pensioners must claim £300 from DWP before March deadline

Pensioners in two specific groups are urged to claim a £300 payment from the Department for Work and Pensions before the upcoming deadline in March.

Two groups of pensioners are being reminded to claim a payment of up to £300 from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) before the approaching deadline for Winter Fuel Payments. While many of the nine million eligible pensioner households have already received their payments, the DWP has pointed out that some individuals need to take action to ensure they receive this assistance. The deadline is in early March, which is just over a month away, emphasizing the urgency for those who have not yet claimed.

The DWP confirmed that by the end of January, the majority of older households entitled to the Winter Fuel Payment had received their respective lump sums. Payments were made automatically to those who qualified, with amounts varying between £100 up to £300 depending on individual circumstances. Furthermore, the Pension Age Winter Heating Payment being administered by Social Security Scotland should have reached most eligible residents over the age of 66, although the payments will continue on a rolling basis until the end of February.

Reports indicate a crucial distinction between groups of pensioners: those who will automatically receive payments, and those who must apply through alternative means, specifically by post or telephone. This highlights the importance of the DWP's guidance to ensure all eligible pensioners access their entitled benefits, preventing any financial hardship as the winter continues into spring.
