In a shocking incident captured on video, a policeman was seen physically assaulting a disabled beggar at the Vindhyavasini temple complex in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh. The footage shows the beggar pleading for mercy while the officer continued to strike him with a stick. The incident reportedly took place when the disabled beggar, who was allegedly under the influence of substances, was asking for alms at the temple's Gate Number 2. Complaints from the public prompted the police to remove him from the premises, which led to a confrontation between him and the officer. Following the widespread dissemination of the video, police leadership took immediate action to address the situation, resulting in the suspension of the involved officer.

Mirzapur's police chief, Archana Rajat Kaushik, has placed the policeman, Sunil Kumar Rai, on leave while an inquiry is conducted regarding the circumstances of the event.
