Japan's election results finally confirmed
The LDP has secured a two-thirds majority in the Japanese House of Representatives following the latest election results, marking the party's best performance in history.
The Japanese election results have finally been confirmed, with the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) securing 315 representatives in the House of Representatives, achieving a two-thirds majority in the 465-member chamber. This result, presented by the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Tokyo, marks the highest performance in the party's history. Alongside the LDP, its coalition partner, the Innovation Party, has attained 36 representatives, bringing their total to 351 seats in the new assembly.
In the previous parliamentary session, the LDP held 198 seats and the Innovation Party had 34. The election was called last month by new Prime Minister Takaichi, who made history as Japan's first female prime minister upon her installation in October. The intent behind the election was to gain voter support for several planned initiatives, including tax cuts, increased public spending, and the establishment of a new security strategy.
Following the elections, Takaichi expressed her commitment to taking on the significant responsibilities associated with her position, stating that her administration aimed to make Japan stronger and more prosperous. Her ascension and the election results indicate a decisive political climate in Japan, which will likely influence the countryโs domestic and foreign policies in the coming years.
