Seven construction workers abducted in Kwara State have been released following coordinated efforts between the state government and security agencies.
Seven construction workers who were abducted from a road project in Kwara State have been freed after spending weeks in captivity. The workers were taken on December 15, 2025, while working on the Sabaja–Owa-Onire Road in the Isin Local Government Area, which raised significant concerns among local residents and the families of the victims. The release underscores ongoing security challenges in the region as kidnapping incidents remain a pressing issue for communities in Nigeria.
Kwara State’s Press Secretary of the Ministry of Works, Olajide Abolarin, confirmed the release, stating that it was the result of collaborative efforts between the state government and various security agencies. The Commissioner for Works, Abdulquawy Olododo, highlighted the successful outcome as a significant advancement in the state's response to insecurity. He praised Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for demonstrating the necessary political will to combat such issues, reflecting a government increasingly focused on public safety.
This incident not only emphasizes the risks construction workers face in Nigeria due to rising insecurity but also highlights the pressure on state administrations to ensure the safety of their citizens and workers. As the public continues to call for more substantial security measures, the government’s ability to respond effectively to such threats will be instrumental in restoring confidence and safety in the region.
