Heavy Rains: Eight Cities in the Vale do Paraíba and Region Are on Alert for Natural Disasters
Eight cities in the Vale do Paraíba region of Brazil are under alert for natural disaster risks due to heavy rains, according to the National Center for Monitoring and Alerts of Natural Disasters (Cemaden).
The National Center for Monitoring and Alerts of Natural Disasters (Cemaden) has issued a warning for eight cities in the Vale do Paraíba region of Brazil due to the risk of natural disasters stemming from heavy rainfall. This advisory highlights concerns about possible landslides and flooding that could severely impact these areas. The alert system categorizes risk levels, with high-risk locations identified in orange, indicating a significant likelihood of disaster in association with high rainfall volumes.
Among the cities at high risk, São Sebastião and Ubatuba are marked in orange, indicating they face the greatest threats. In contrast, five other municipalities, including Caraguatatuba, Ilhabela, and São José dos Campos, are designated as being at moderate risk, represented by yellow on the alert map. Interestingly, Atibaia has been placed on observation, marked in dark green, which signals that while immediate dangers are not apparent, conditions may warrant close monitoring as the weather pattern evolves.
Cemaden's meteorologist, Giovanni Dolif, explained that the rainfall patterns necessitate such warnings to preemptively address potential disasters. As the situation develops, authorities urge residents to stay vigilant and prepared, emphasizing the need for community awareness in mitigating the impacts of possible flooding and geological hazards.
