Winnipeg non-profit sends art, support to Minneapolis
A Winnipeg arts charity is providing artistic support to a similar organization in Minneapolis through a workshop that produces and sends artworks.
Art City Inc., an arts non-profit in Winnipeg, is extending its support to Minneapolis by sending artworks to its counterpart, Articulture, which serves vulnerable communities. This initiative, dubbed "Mail it to Minneapolis," encourages local artists and community members to create two-dimensional art, promoting a sense of solidarity amidst troubling events in Minneapolis. The artistic director, Eddie Ayoub, expressed that the shared values between Manitoba and Minnesota inspired this outreach, emphasizing the role of art in community support.
The workshop invites community participation to produce drawings, paintings, and other virtual artworks, aiming to provide emotional comfort and connection. Ayoub noted that the motivation behind the project is to actively respond to the adverse situations unfolding in Minneapolis and to use creativity as a medium for outreach. Following the idea's conception, communication with Articulture was swift, culminating in an enthusiastic response from their executive director, Elizabeth Greenbaum.
This creative collaboration underscores the power of art as a tool for solidarity and support across borders, utilizing shared cultural ties between Canada and the US. By facilitating this exchange of artworks, the Winnipeg-based non-profit hopes to foster community connections and uplift those experiencing difficulties in the Twin Cities, highlighting the importance of arts in social cohesion and healing.
