Teatro Oficina auctioning exclusive piece for its collection
A charity luncheon named Banquete Antropofágico will auction an exclusive piece by designer Caio da Rocha to support the collection of Teatro Oficina.
Teatro Oficina, a historical Brazilian theater company, is organizing a charity luncheon called Banquete Antropofágico to auction an exclusive piece designed by Caio da Rocha. This event aims to support the theater's collection, which houses over 3,000 costumes, props, and scenic objects that represent decades of the group's artistic history. Founded by José Celso Martinez Corrêa, Teatro Oficina boasts a rich cultural legacy, making the preservation of its materials essential.
The initiative to auction the piece is part of a larger effort to fund the Casa de Acervo.Oficina, which has already restored and cataloged around 2,500 items, digitalized another 1,500, and commenced the development of a public-access website. These efforts are supported through funding from ProAC (Cultural Action Program of the State of São Paulo), highlighting the importance of local government support in cultural preservation.
As public funding is set to conclude in March 2026, both the collection's director, Elisete Jeremias, and the theater's director, Marcelo Drummond, are working on new strategies and initiatives to ensure the sustainability of these important cultural assets. Their proactive engagement signifies a commitment to the ongoing preservation of Brazil's theatrical heritage, reflecting the vital role that institutions like Teatro Oficina play in the cultural landscape.
