Occupation Storms Silwan and Shufat, Expels 6 Jerusalemites from Al-Aqsa
Israeli forces stormed the neighborhoods of Silwan and Shufat in occupied Jerusalem, imposing heavy fines on merchants and expelling six young men from the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Israeli occupation forces carried out a significant raid in Silwan and the Shufat refugee camp in occupied Jerusalem on Monday, imposing severe financial penalties on various local merchants. According to the Palestinian news agency WAFA, the Israeli police enforced a wide-ranging operation that included heavy fines, amounting to 800,000 shekels (approximately 260,000 dollars), levied on one trader for allegedly possessing and selling counterfeit goods. This action is part of ongoing restrictions and punitive measures against Palestinian residents in these neighborhoods.
In Shufat, Israeli forces also intensified their presence, conducting searches throughout the camp and even employing tear gas canisters in the operation, although no injuries were reported. The actions in both areas are seen as part of a larger strategy by the Israeli authorities to exert control and put pressure on Palestinian communities in Jerusalem, particularly those connected to the holy site of Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Moreover, the expulsion of six Jerusalemites from Al-Aqsa underscores the escalating crackdown on Palestinian worshippers, as reported by the Jerusalem Governorate. These expulsions are framed by officials as part of a broader policy of escalation and constricting freedoms for residents of Jerusalem, targeting those who are active in protecting their rights and presence at the mosque. Such actions not only exacerbate tensions in the region but also highlight the ongoing struggles of Palestinian residents under occupation.
