Cities in the coastline and inland of SP are on alert for landslide risk
The Civil Defense of São Paulo has placed 30 cities on alert for landslides due to heavy rainfall in the area.
The Civil Defense of the State of São Paulo announced that it has maintained an alert status for landslide risks in 30 cities, including key municipalities like Bertioga, Guarujá, Santos, São Vicente, and Registro, as of Monday, November 9. This decision was made following significant rainfall accumulation over the last 72 hours, which raises concerns over potential disasters and necessitates immediate preventive actions, particularly in high-risk zones. However, the exact rainfall amounts have not yet been released.
In the past week, the Baixada Santista has already experienced at least five landslides. Notably, one occurred in Bertioga on Saturday, and three took place in Guarujá along with another in Santos on Thursday, November 5. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries from these incidents; however, 13 individuals were required to vacate their homes due to safety concerns stemming from the geological phenomenon.
The ongoing situation highlights the challenges faced by these coastal cities in managing severe weather implications and emphasizes the importance of preparedness in urban planning and response strategies. As local authorities continue to monitor the conditions, the need for community awareness and risk management becomes more critical, especially as heavy rains are expected to persist in the region.
