Tõstamaa Handicraft Center is Sewing Traditional Coats from Pärnu County
The Tõstamaa Handicraft Center is engaged in sewing traditional woolen coats to preserve the heritage of Pärnu County.
The Tõstamaa Handicraft Center has taken on the initiative to sew woolen coats that reflect the traditional attire of the Pärnu County regions. This project is aimed at preserving cultural heritage through the creation of these coats, which are completely handmade using traditional sewing techniques. As the cold season approaches, these coats have become particularly relevant as suitable winter garments.
Led by Anu Randmaa, a master of traditional clothing, the project aims to recreate the historical winter clothing of the Pärnumaa regions. Randmaa’s interest in these garments dates back to her first visit to a folk clothing school in 2000, where she was inspired by the beautiful coats gathered from Tõstamaa. Her goal has been to ensure that these winter clothes, which include exquisite coats, jackets, and hats, are made in line with the traditional methods and styles.
The course provides a unique opportunity for experienced folk clothing masters to participate, allowing them to produce these coats as part of their personal projects while also contributing to the preservation of the region's heritage. This effort not only highlights the importance of traditional attire but also fosters a sense of community and cultural pride among the participants in Tõstamaa.
