Two senior Norwegian diplomats being investigated over Epstein links
Two senior Norwegian diplomats are under investigation for their ties to Jeffrey Epstein amid allegations of corruption.
Norwegian authorities are investigating two prominent diplomats, Mona Juul and her husband Terje Rød-Larsen, in connection with the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Juul, who recently resigned from her position as ambassador to Jordan and Iraq, is under suspicion of gross corruption related to her former position at the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Her husband, a former diplomat and the ex-president of the International Peace Institute, is similarly under investigation for complicity in such corruption.
The investigation is being led by Norway’s financial crimes squad, Økokrim, which has stated its intention to thoroughly examine whether any criminal acts have occurred in relation to the diplomats' roles. This includes probing whether Juul received illicit benefits linked to her position, highlighting the seriousness of the allegations and the potential ramifications for both individuals involved. The head of Økokrim, Pål Lønseth, described the inquiry as comprehensive and likely to be lengthy, indicating that it is a matter of significant concern for the Norwegian government.
Both diplomats have stated through their lawyers that they are cooperating with the ongoing investigation, which underscores the serious nature of the situation they find themselves in. These developments may not only impact their professional standing but could also have wider implications for Norway’s diplomatic community and its integrity in the wake of such scandalous affiliations with Epstein, a figure whose case continues to raise challenging questions about power dynamics and exploitation in elite circles.
