Death at gym in SP: security cameras show employee manipulating chemicals next to pool
Security cameras at a swimming gym in São Paulo captured an employee mixing chemicals near a pool, coinciding with the death of a 27-year-old instructor.
Security cameras from a swimming gym in São Paulo have revealed footage of an employee mixing and manipulating chemicals in the vicinity of the pool, right next to students who were still in the water. This incident is under investigation following the tragic death of Juliana Faustino Bassetto, a 27-year-old swimming instructor, who reportedly died after coming into contact with the pool's water. The footage shows activity in a back area of the pool, as well as the class that took place before the incident that led to her death.
The Civil Police are looking into whether the cause of Bassetto's death was related to the gases generated from the mixture of cleaning products used in the gym, located in the Parque São Lucas area of São Paulo's East Zone. Police reports indicate that Bassetto's death occurred shortly after she was exposed to the pool water. According to Delegate Alexandre Bento from the 42nd Police District, the main theory being investigated is that the mixing of these chemicals happened in the same environment where the swimming lesson was occurring, potentially leading to a dangerous exposure to toxic fumes for those present.
The incident raises significant concerns regarding safety protocols and the handling of hazardous materials in recreational facilities. As authorities conduct their investigation, it highlights the need for stringent regulations in gyms and swimming pools to ensure the safety of both staff and patrons. This tragic event serves as a reminder of the potential consequences that can arise from negligence and improper chemical handling in public spaces.
