This advanced satellite communication system enables Russian drones to maintain a stable connection over considerable distances, thereby enhancing their operational capabilities in areas beyond Ukraine's frontline. The use of Starlink allows Russian forces to circumvent electronic warfare measures and conduct strikes in Ukraine's rear, posing a significant tactical challenge to Ukrainian defense operations.

Ukrainian intelligence first highlighted this emerging threat in early summer 2025, following the discovery of debris from loitering munitions equipped with similar satellite communication technology.
