BBC's Annie McAlpine's stalker ordered to stay away from her after 'sinister behaviour'
A stalker of BBC presenter Annie McAlpine has been sentenced to a lifetime non-harassment order after a four-year campaign of intimidation.
Robert Green has been ordered to keep away from BBC Scotland presenter Annie McAlpine for life after being found guilty of stalking her for four years. His behavior, described as 'intrusive and intimidating,' left McAlpine in a state of fear. Despite denying the charges, Green was convicted for engaging in conduct that caused her significant distress.
At the sentencing, Sheriff Owen Mullan remarked on the sinister nature of Green's actions, which included targeting McAlpine at her home. As a consequence, Green was given a two-year supervision order intended to monitor his behavior following his release. The lifetime non-harassment order prevents him from contacting McAlpine in any manner, indicating the serious nature of the case.
This ruling underscores the legal system's recognition of the gravity of stalking and the importance of protecting victims from persistent harassment. McAlpine, who has bravely come forward about her ordeal, hopes that this case raises awareness about stalking behaviors and encourages other victims to seek help and report similar situations.
