Eduardo Berti wins the Roger Caillois Award for 'Faster'

Eduardo Berti, an Argentine writer, has won the prestigious Roger Caillois Award for his autobiographical chronicle 'Faster'.

Eduardo Berti has been awarded the Roger Caillois Award for his work 'Faster', marking the third consecutive year that an Argentine author has received this distinguished prize in the category of Latin American literature translated into French. The announcement was made by La Casa de América Latina in France, the Society of Friends and Readers of Roger Caillois, and the French PEN Club. Berti, who resides in France and has been a member of the Oulipo group since 2014, translated 'Faster' himself into French for the publishing house La Contre Allée. He will receive a monetary prize of one thousand euros along with this recognition.

The Roger Caillois Award is significant as it highlights the contributions of Latin American literature within the French literary landscape. Previous winners of the award include notable Argentine authors such as Martín Caparrós and Samanta Schweblin, who received the honor in 2023 and 2024, respectively. This consistent recognition of Argentine writers demonstrates the richness and relevance of their literary voices, especially in a global context where translation plays a crucial role in cultural exchange.

Berti's work 'Faster' has been well-received for its autobiographical elements, reflecting personal narratives that resonate with broader themes of identity and experience. As Berti continues to gain international acclaim, the award underscores the importance of supporting literary translation and the dissemination of diverse narratives across language barriers, enriching the literary world as a whole.
