Dutch women took a double victory in the 1000 meters

Dutch skaters Jutta Leerdam and Femke Kok secured a medal sweep in the women's 1000 meter speed skating event at the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics.

At the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics, Dutch skater Jutta Leerdam clinched the gold medal in the women's 1000 meter speed skating event, marking a remarkable comeback after winning silver in the previous Olympics in Beijing. Leerdam set a new Olympic record with a time of 1:12.31, improving the previous best by nearly a second, showcasing her extraordinary speed and skill on the ice.

Femke Kok, also from the Netherlands, claimed the silver medal, finishing just 0.28 seconds slower than her teammate. Kok's performance reinforces the strength of Dutch speed skating, particularly in women's events, where they have consistently dominated world competitions. Meanwhile, Miho Takagi from Japan, who was the reigning Olympic champion and record holder prior to this event, took home the bronze medal with a time that was 1.64 seconds behind Leerdam.
