Søreide apologizes for forgetting board positions
Ine Eriksen Søreide, a member of the Conservative Party, apologizes for not declaring her board position in a Swiss humanitarian organization in the Norwegian Parliament’s interest register.
Ine Eriksen Søreide, a prominent member of Norway's Conservative Party, has publicly apologized for her oversight in failing to declare her membership on the board of the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue, a Swiss humanitarian organization, to the Norwegian Parliament's interest register. Søreide, who joined the board in 2021, stated that such positions are required to be declared under parliamentary rules, emphasizing that her omission was simply a memory lapse.
In her statement, Søreide clarified that her role at the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue is unpaid and that it has been listed on the organization's official website. She also made reference to holding a similar unpaid advisory position at the International Crisis Group, which she also failed to register. Her recent disclosures come in light of increasing scrutiny regarding transparency and accountability among public officials in Norway.
Søreide reassured the public that she is in the process of stepping down from both positions, indicating that her current academic and political commitments will take precedence. This incident puts a spotlight on the expectations of elected officials in terms of disclosing potential conflicts of interest and raises questions around adherence to transparency regulations in the public sector.
