Water supply in Kherson disrupted due to extensive damage to networks
Water supply in Kherson is facing disruptions due to significant damage inflicted on the water supply networks by Russian attacks.
In Kherson, Ukraine, the water supply system is struggling to function properly following extensive damage to the centralised networks caused by ongoing Russian military actions. Mykhailo Lynetskyi, the First Deputy Head of the Kherson City Military Administration, reported that Russian forces are deliberately targeting centralised water supply wells as part of their strategy. This disruption is compounded by previous damage to energy infrastructure, particularly the Kherson Thermal Power Plant, which was attacked last December and remains unable to undergo repairs.
The situation has escalated with Russian forces not only targeting water supply systems but also utility workers, who are under threat from drone and artillery strikes. This systematic targeting indicates a concerning trend in the conflict, where basic civilian infrastructure is being compromised, leading to difficulties in providing essential services to the population. Alongside the water supply issues, authorities are facing challenges with heating systems as winter approaches, raising concerns about humanitarian conditions in the region.
Despite the disruption to water and heating supplies, electricity delivery to Kherson and neighboring areas reportedly continues without interruption. Lynetskyi's statements to the media highlight the precarious situation for residents as they deal with the consequences of the ongoing conflict, which not only disrupts daily life but also poses significant risks to public health and safety due to the lack of reliable water sources.
