Steering Committee swears in municipal representatives and schedules agenda for Wednesday (11)
The Steering Committee of the IBS held a ceremony for the swearing-in of municipal representatives and plans to announce an agenda calendar next Wednesday.
On Monday, the Steering Committee of the IBS (Tax on Goods and Services) conducted a ceremony to swear in municipal representatives to the council. The committee's president, Flávio César Mendes de Oliveira, announced plans to reveal a calendar outlining the dates for the entity's first meetings, as well as a list of priority issues during the meeting scheduled for next Wednesday. This is seen as a crucial step towards the formal establishment of the committee, with processes already in motion to ensure its operational readiness.
The establishment of the IBS committee comes after a communication in September of the previous year, announcing the opening of a bank account that would receive R$ 150 million designated for its operations in 2025, as mandated by complementary law 214/2025. This financial planning showcases the government's commitment to ensuring the committee has the necessary resources to function effectively. The president also emphasized the importance of the committee in enabling a dialogue between the IBS and the CBS (Contribution on Goods and Services).
During the event, the newly sworn-in representatives, appointed by the National Confederation of Municipalities (CNM) and the National Front of Mayors (FNP), were welcomed, highlighting the collaborative approach towards governance in Brazil’s tax system. This initiative reflects a significant development in how municipal governance will interact with the implementation of new tax regulations, which could have broad implications for local revenue generation and fiscal management across the country.
