Assassination attempt on general: Moscow: suspects have confessed
Two suspects in the assassination attempt on a high-ranking Russian intelligence general have reportedly confessed to acting on behalf of the Ukrainian secret service, although Ukraine denies involvement.
Following an assassination attempt on a senior Russian intelligence general, reports from Moscow indicate that the two suspects have admitted to their involvement. According to the Russian FSB, the suspects claimed during interrogations that they were acting under the orders of the Ukrainian secret service SBU. This claim has been strongly denied by Ukraine, which maintains that it had no role in the attack. The general in question, Vladimir Alexeyev, is recovering after being shot three times in a Moscow residential building.
The victim, who serves as the deputy chief of the GRU, was said to be conscious following a surgical operation. The investigation revealed that the suspected shooter, a Russian citizen born in Ukraine, had been extradited from Dubai to Moscow. Reports suggest that he was recruited by the SBU in Ternopil, western Ukraine, trained in Kyiv, and compensated monthly for his alleged involvement in the assassination attempt.
This incident adds to the growing tensions between Russia and Ukraine, particularly regarding accusations of espionage and assassination plots. As the FSB claims to have made progress in the investigation, the geopolitical implications of this event could further strain relations between the two nations, which are already fraught due to ongoing conflict in the region.
