Giant Rooster Assembly Enthralls Revelers on Duarte Coelho Bridge; Sculpture to Receive 'Heart' in Unprecedented Parade
The assembly of a giant rooster sculpture in Recife is attracting crowds, with a unique parade planned to install a heart onto the structure.
In the heart of Recife, the assembly of a giant rooster sculpture is captivating both revelers and curious onlookers on the Duarte Coelho Bridge. Although the towering sculpture, measuring over 30 meters, is not yet upright, it has already become a focal point of interest in the city. Scheduled to be raised on Wednesday, it is part of the festive preparations leading up to the Carnival celebrations, which are a significant cultural event in Brazil.
Artist Leopoldo Nóbrega, who is behind the design of the giant rooster, mentioned that this year’s theme is 'Galo Folião Fraterno' (Fraternal Reveler Rooster) and pays tribute to Dom Hélder Câmara, an influential archbishop of Olinda and Recife. A unique event will occur on Tuesday, where a ceremonial heart will be paraded from the Convento de Santo Antônio to the bridge, symbolizing a historical moment in the development of this beloved Carnival emblem.
The giant rooster artwork not only serves as a centerpiece for the festivities but also reinforces local cultural heritage and communal spirit among the inhabitants of Recife. With the installation of this whimsical and towering figure, the city is gearing up for lively celebrations that honor both artistic expression and local history as the Carnival approaches.
