A collaborative operation led by Brazil's Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama) and the Federal Police (PF) targeted illegal mining activities in the environmentally sensitive regions between the states of Pará and Amapá. The enforcement action resulted in the destruction of an airplane and heavy machinery, along with the seizure of 217.5 grams of gold and 43,000 liters of fuel. These measures aim to combat the growing threats posed by illegal miners in the area, which has witnessed a significant rise in such activities.

The operation took place in the Jari Ecological Station (ESEC) and the Paru State Forest, specifically in a region known for its towering Angelins Vermelhos Gigantes trees, some of the largest in the Amazon. Official sources indicated that there have been 41 alerts related to illegal mining in the year 2026 alone, reflecting a concerning trend that has prompted authorities to enhance monitoring and enforcement efforts. The Brazilian government aims to protect its vital ecosystems while addressing the illegal activities threatening them.
