Ukraine: At least four dead in Russian airstrikes
Russian drone and missile attacks in Ukraine resulted in at least four deaths and extensive power outages for tens of thousands of residents.
Massive Russian drone and missile strikes on Ukraine led to at least four confirmed deaths overnight, according to local authorities. The attacks specifically targeted infrastructure, leading to widespread power outages affecting tens of thousands of residences. In Bohoduchiw, located in the eastern Kharkiv region, a mother and her ten-year-old son were among the casualties, while a fatality was also reported in the southern port city of Odessa and a 71-year-old man lost his life in the northern Chernihiv region.
The Ukrainian Air Force reported that the assaults involved the launch of 11 ballistic missiles and 149 drones, with 116 drones either shot down or neutralized during the attacks. The ongoing strikes reflect a strategic approach by Russia to undermine Ukraine's infrastructure, which is vital for civilian life and military operations. The impact of these attacks is exacerbated by the onset of colder weather, placing additional pressure on an already strained power system.
In addition to the fatalities, dozens of civilians sustained injuries, including a 13-year-old girl from the Dnipropetrovsk region. These developments underscore the continued volatility and dangers faced by the civilian population in Ukraine amidst the ongoing conflict, highlighting the urgent need for humanitarian assistance as well as international support to ensure the safety and resilience of affected communities.
