A 17-year-old was apprehended after stealing two gold chains from a 59-year-old woman at a beach in Guarujá, São Paulo, and trying to escape into the sea.
A 17-year-old teenager was detained for stealing two gold chains from a 59-year-old woman at Enseada beach in Guarujá, São Paulo. The incident occurred on Saturday when the young suspect forcefully removed the chains from the victim's neck and attempted to flee towards the water. Witnesses quickly alerted authorities and followed him as he ran into the sea in an effort to escape.
Fortunately for the victim, a team from the Brazilian Navy was conducting maritime traffic inspections in the area at the time. As they were present with jet skis, they were able to witness the suspect's escape into the water and quickly intervened. The Navy's action not only prevented the teenager from escaping but also demonstrated the effectiveness of having law enforcement present in high-traffic tourist areas, especially on weekends when crime can often spike.
The incident has raised awareness about safety measures at popular beaches in Brazil, where petty crimes can take place. With the swift response from both witnesses and the Navy, there is a call for more regular patrols and security measures to ensure the safety of beachgoers and prevent similar incidents in the future.
