At the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Oberpfaffenhofen, significant construction activity is underway as the Galileo Competence Center expands, with an expected completion in 2027. This center is crucial for developing technologies for the European satellite navigation system, Galileo, enhancing the region’s role in aerospace innovation. Alongside the center, plans for a new operational restaurant and conference facilities will cater to about 2,000 employees, bolstering local infrastructure and services.

Minister President Markus Söder visited the site to personally present a funding announcement of 58 million euros from the Free State of Bavaria, complemented by an additional 20 million euros from the DLR itself. This financial support highlights the Bavarian government's commitment to advancing space exploration and technology in the region. The Human Exploration Control Center (HECC), aimed at working on lunar missions, is expected to commence construction in 2028, with operations set to begin in the early 2030s, marking a significant step forward in Germany's contributions to space exploration.

With the development of the HECC and the expansion of the DLR, Oberpfaffenhofen is emerging as a key player in international space exploration initiatives.
