"I don't know what to do" - the business of a company making battery protectors for electric cars stalled when Traficom intervened

A Finnish entrepreneur's business in creating battery protectors for electric vehicles has faced a sharp decline after regulatory intervention by Traficom.

Jammi Rahkonen, a businessman from Kokkola, Finland, has encountered significant setbacks due to the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency, Traficom's, recent announcement regarding electric vehicle battery protectors. Rahkonen had developed a protective armor for electric vehicle batteries as a response to increasing reports of battery damage, benefitting from growing consumer interest since he first installed these protectors a year ago.

However, in December, Traficom issued a statement effectively prohibiting the installation of such additional protection on the expensive batteries of cars. This announcement took Rahkonen completely by surprise, as he had been in communication with the agency regarding the inspection practices for vehicles equipped with battery protectors and had not been informed of any prohibitions. His concerns were echoed by the immediate impact the statement had on his business, describing how the revenue he had started to generate dwindled almost entirely in December.

Now, Rahkonen faces uncertainty about the future of his business, indicating that sales would likely have been successful had it not been for the sudden regulatory change. The situation highlights the potential challenges that entrepreneurs in the innovative tech sector may face when navigating regulatory landscapes and suggests a need for clearer communication between regulatory bodies and businesses aiming to enhance vehicle safety and consumer protection.
