"We won't go together." Pavel and Macinka are preparing for the Munich conference
Czech President Petr Pavel and Foreign Minister Petr Macinka are set to attend the Munich Security Conference, with Macinka opting to travel independently.
The Munich Security Conference will see the participation of Czech President Petr Pavel and Foreign Minister Petr Macinka. After a government meeting, Macinka informed the press that he has arranged bilateral discussions on the sidelines of the forum. He plans to travel solo to Munich, rejecting a joint delegation from the presidential office, stating that he will drive there in a combustion engine car due to its proximity.
Premier Andrej Babiš announced that Defense Minister Jaromír Zůna would also participate in the conference. Today, the government approved the technical preparations for their travel to Munich. Macinka highlighted that the conference is merely an event where no votes or decisions are made, underscoring the importance of the invitation extended to both the president and the minister without the presence of the unified delegation from the government.
Tension exists within the coalition leaders regarding the extent of representation for the Czech Republic, especially given the dispute involving the Motorists party and the presidential office over the rejection of MP Filip Turka's appointment as the Minister of the Environment by the president. This disagreement has sparked discussions on the representation strategy for the conference and highlights the divisions within the government regarding key appointments and representation issues.
