The prosecutor's office in Venezuela announced on Monday that it has rescinded the release of opposition leader Juan Pablo Guanipa, just hours after his detention was publicly condemned by colleagues in the opposition. Guanipa's recent release was terminated due to alleged non-compliance with judicial conditions imposed upon him. As a result, the prosecutor's office has requested that he be placed under house arrest instead of full freedom.

In its statement, the Venezuelan Public Ministry emphasized that all precautionary measures agreed upon by the courts are contingent on strict adherence to the conditions set. The decision to revoke Guanipa's release highlights the ongoing tensions between the Venezuelan government and opposition leaders, who have faced increasing repression and restrictions on their political activities.

The news of Guanipa's revised detention conditions has also sparked renewed criticism from other opposition figures, including Maria Corina Machado, a prominent opposition leader and 2025 Nobel Peace Prize laureate. Machado condemned the situation during the early hours of Monday, stating that armed men had been sighted at Guanipa's home, indicating an alarming escalation of threats against opposition leaders in Venezuela.
