Ukraine receives million support for healthcare and social services
Sweden is contributing an additional 60 million SEK to Ukraine for healthcare and social services directed at children as part of a broader three-year support initiative.
Sweden has announced an additional 60 million SEK in support of Ukraine's healthcare and social services, particularly targeting children, as part of a larger commitment of 129.5 million SEK over the period of 2025-2027. The funding, sanctioned by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), reflects the dire conditions faced by the Ukrainian healthcare system amid ongoing conflict.
Social Affairs Minister Jakob Forssmed highlighted the intense pressure on Ukrainian healthcare and welfare systems during a press conference, noting that there have been 36 Russian attacks on hospitals this year alone, as reported by the United Nations. This financial assistance aims to enhance the functionality and resilience of the Ukrainian healthcare system, which is under constant threat due to the war.
The focus of Sweden's support includes initiatives for knowledge transfer regarding healthcare operations in crisis situations, combating antibiotic resistance, and providing family-based care within social services and elderly care. Such efforts are crucial in strengthening the healthcare infrastructure in Ukraine and ensuring that support reaches vulnerable populations, especially children and the elderly, who are among the most affected by the ongoing conflict.
