A fire broke out in a single-family home in Hollola, Finland, after a child accessed fire-starting devices, leading to significant property damage but no injuries.
On Monday, a fire ignited in a single-family home located in Hollola, Finland, after a child reportedly got hold of fire-starting devices, including a lighter, which they used during playtime. Fire Chief Timo Kaivola from the Päijät-Häme Rescue Department confirmed that while the child’s mother indicated the involvement of the lighter, the investigation still aims to determine if the fire had penetrated the structure of the house.
Fortunately, there were no reported injuries from the incident, though the damage to property was significant. One room of the home was severely destroyed by the flames, and many belongings were lost in the fire. Furthermore, smoke damage was substantial on the upper floor of the house, indicating that the fire was extensive.
The fire department received the alarm at 11:45 AM and they quickly mobilized to extinguish the blaze. Investigators will continue to assess the situation to understand the full extent of the fire's damage and prevent future incidents like this from occurring in homes in the area.
