An Anonymous Test to Help Identify Domestic Violence

A new anonymous online test has been introduced in Latvia to help individuals recognize signs of domestic violence in their relationships.

In Latvia, the crisis and counseling center 'Skalbes', in collaboration with the Ministry of Welfare, has launched an anonymous online test titled 'Safety at Home Starts with a Choice' to raise public awareness about the distinction between healthy communication and abusive behavior. The test aims to encourage users to reflect on their daily interactions with loved ones, identify potential signs of violent behavior, and take steps to seek help.

According to the creators of the test, it serves as a proactive measure alongside the domestic violence prevention hotline 'Don't Harm, Choose to Call!' which has been operational across Latvia since last spring. Individuals experiencing difficulties in managing their emotions or who recognize challenges in their behavior are encouraged to utilize the hotline, which provides support for those at risk of committing physical, emotional, or other forms of violence.

The addition of this test enables individuals to assess their behavior before reaching out for help, allowing them to identify possible problematic actions and gain insight into their circumstances. This initiative reflects a growing recognition of the need for preventive measures in domestic violence cases and promotes a culture of seeking assistance rather than suffering in silence.
