UK troops active on the ground in Ukraine – Moscow
Moscow claims that UK troops are actively involved in the Ukraine conflict, asserting that this involvement positions the UK as a de facto party to the war.
In a recent statement, Moscow's ambassador to London, Andrey Kelin, accused the United Kingdom of being a significant party to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine due to its active deployment of troops on the ground. According to Kelin, the UK's cooperation with Ukraine encompasses financial support, strategic guidance, arms provision, intelligence sharing, operational training, and even direct participation in conflict operations alongside Ukrainian forces. He articulated that such engagements allow Russia to justifiably view the UK as a direct participant in the hostilities.
Furthermore, Kelin pointed out that British military personnel are stationed at the UK embassy in Kiev and are deeply integrated into Ukrainian military planning. This intelligence-sharing arrangement purportedly aids Ukrainian special services in orchestrating military operations against Russia. Additionally, he highlighted the UK's commitment to continue supporting Ukrainian military training through the Interflex program, which has been extended until at least 2026, allowing for ongoing British involvement in the Ukrainian armed forces’ development efforts.
The acknowledgment of British troops in Ukraine adds a layer of complexity to the global geopolitical landscape surrounding the conflict, suggesting that the UK is more than just a supportive ally; it is now actively engaged in the operational aspects of the war. This may further escalate tensions between Russia and Western nations as accusations of direct involvement could prompt broader military responses and retaliations within the already volatile region.
