Aristotle University: Prosecutorial intervention for the incidents – What is being investigated
A preliminary investigation has been ordered into the incidents that occurred at Aristotle University in Thessaloniki, focusing on whether university authorities were aware of a prior party that preceded the disturbances.
In a significant move following disturbances at the Polytechnic School of Aristotle University (APTH), the head of the Thessaloniki Appeals Prosecutor's Office, Leonidas Nikolopoulos, has ordered a preliminary investigation. This inquiry will examine three primary questions: whether university authorities were aware of a party that took place before the incidents, whether a request for permission to hold this party was submitted, and how the university's security company responded during these events.
Currently, a police investigation is also underway, which has already led to the detainment of 313 individuals at the General Police Directorate of Thessaloniki. The examination lasted several hours as authorities sought to ascertain potential involvement of these individuals in the disturbances. However, according to reports from the Hellenic Police (EL.AS), the investigation did not yield any evidence of criminal activities related to the individuals detained.
The implications of this investigation extend beyond the university environment, raising questions about the accountability of educational institutions in maintaining security during events and the protocols they follow regarding party permissions. This case reflects a broader concern about safety and order within university campuses in Greece, indicating potential ramifications for university administrations and their security strategies moving forward.
